The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital (QEII) in Queensland sparkled with creativity during its Bling a Bra competition, held in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event, now in its second year, showcased 22 intricately designed bras that ranged from themes inspired by the roaring 20s to pink flamingos and butterfly gardens. The Staff Dining Room was transformed into a whimsical space, offering attendees a glimpse of pure imagination with a touch of humor.
The competition’s judges faced a tough decision as they evaluated the unique creations. Among the standout designs were ‘Light up Butterfly’ by Natalie Marshall from Ward 5A, ‘Hush Puppies’ by BreastScreen Qld QEII, and ‘Full Bloom’ by another entry from BreastScreen Qld QEII. These stunning creations not only captivated the audience but also served a noble cause.
All proceeds generated from the competition entries will be directed towards purchasing post-surgical bras and head wraps for women undergoing breast cancer treatment at QEII. Anne Chiverall, QEII Clinical Nurse Consultant Surgical Services, and McGrath Breast Care Nurse Michelle Hawksworth spearheaded this initiative to support breast cancer patients through a creative and engaging platform.
Anne emphasized the importance of raising awareness about breast cancer in a light-hearted yet meaningful way. She highlighted the care and dedication reflected in each bra design, as they symbolized stories of hope and resilience.
